Easy Health Tip #25: The Write Stuff
![]()
We hate stress around these parts. It’s the straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back sort of killer that’s so dangerous because you never see it coming. It can lead to short term infection, because of its toll on your immune system, and to truly devastating long-term effects such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Yikes!
This tip is a monster stress buster, and it’s one of the easiest of the series. Just keep a journal. I’m not talking about a log of your daily life or a planner, but a journal. What’s the difference? A journal is a place to explore feelings in detail and reflect on your day. Keeping these things inside stresses you out, which can cost you valuable sleep along with a host of other physical maladies.
The great thing about journaling is that anyone in any condition can do it. After all if Hawking can publish 100+ works, you can write about how frustrated you get when the Sonic girl forgets your tots. All you need is pen and paper, so it’s cheap as well.
From About.com:
- Journaling decreases the symptoms of asthma, arthritis, and other health conditions
- It improves cognitive functioning
- It strengthens the immune system, preventing a host of illnesses
- It counteracts many of the negative effects of stress.
So put down the foot-long coney and pick up a pen. Vent a little. It’ll take a weight off your shoulders figuratively, and it just might keep the real-life doctor away.
